Questions, answered.
Answers to common questions about the baum desktop app.
Which coding agents does baum support?
For now, Claude Code (2.1.248 or newer) and Codex (0.156.1 or newer). baum shows their sessions and uses them to write reviews.
Does baum replace Claude Code or Codex?
No. You keep using them in the terminal or their apps. baum shows you which sessions need you and takes you to them, and reviews the pull requests they produce.
A session is missing. What do I check?
Is baum another review agent?
No, and it doesn’t replace yours. Keep the review agents you use on GitHub: they check that the code works. baum explains what a pull request changes, which parts need your attention and what was decided along the way. Their findings and checks show up beside baum’s review, so you see everything in one place.
What about my CI?
Your CI keeps running on GitHub as it does today; baum doesn’t run or replace it. baum reads your checks from GitHub and shows them on every pull request, the Inbox and the review. When a check fails on one of your pull requests, baum tells you, and you can re-run the checks or ask your agent to fix the failure. A review keeps a passing test run apart from the agent’s own judgement, so you always know which is which.
Why did setup ask me to choose a model?
baum writes reviews with your own Claude Code or Codex, and the model you choose sets their quality, speed and how much of your plan they use. You can change it any time in Settings → Reviews. See Reviews.
Do I need a baum account?
Not for the desktop app. You sign in to GitHub only, and the desktop app has no baum account and no baum server of its own.
Can I use a GitHub token I already have?
Yes. Set github_token in ~/.config/baum/config.toml, or export GH_TOKEN
in your shell profile, for example from gh auth token. See
Use an existing GitHub token.
What does baum cost?
baum is free and open source under the MIT licence; the code is on GitHub. Reviews, fixes and answers run through your own Claude Code or Codex, so they use your agent’s plan or API usage. See Usage to keep track of it.
How much of my plan does baum use?
Very little. Each review is one short run of your agent, capped at 10 minutes, so it uses a small share of your plan. You can see what every review used on the Jobs page, narrow which pull requests are reviewed, or pause automatic reviews from the tray. See Usage.
Will baum post on my pull requests?
Only when you ask it to. baum writes to GitHub when you merge, update a branch, re-run checks or start a fix, and at no other time. Generated reviews stay in the app.
How do I stop automatic reviews?
Choose Pause automatic reviews in the tray menu, or turn them off in Settings → Reviews. Queued reviews are cancelled and running ones finish.
How do I report a problem?
Choose Report a problem in the ? menu beside Settings. Describe what
happened, choose what to attach, and baum opens a filled-in GitHub issue in your
browser. Nothing is sent until you submit it there. See
Report a problem.
Can I use baum with my team?
The open source desktop app is built for one person: it runs on your computer and shows your own sessions and pull requests. Working on reviews together, such as team discussions and a Timeline of everyone’s features, needs baum’s hosted version. Want to try it with your team? Send us a message.
How do I remove baum's plugin and command?
In Settings → Connections → Agent hooks, remove the plugin from each
agent. In Settings → This computer → Command line, choose Remove CLI. baum removes only what
it added and restores a baum command it replaced.
