Review features. Not diffs.
baum writes a review of each pull request that explains the change, so you can decide where to look instead of reading every line.
What a review shows
Section titled “What a review shows”A review is not a line-by-line diff. It explains the pull request in the order you need it:
- Overview — what changes for users, or the engineering benefit, and where the change sits in the codebase.
- Context — how the change fits into the code around it, for when you haven’t worked in that area. It stays collapsed until you open it.
- Sections — the change grouped by what it does. Each section is scored from 1 to 5 for how much it needs your attention, highest first, so you can stop reading once the rest looks routine.
- Evidence — checks, test results and possible problems, each with what supports it. Missing or failed evidence is shown as missing, never as a pass.
From a review you can:
- Ask the agent that wrote the review a question about the change.
- Start a fix for a merge conflict, a failing check or review comments.
How a review is generated
Section titled “How a review is generated”Reviews are written on your computer by your own Claude Code or Codex, in your local clone of the repository. baum gives the agent the pull request, its code and its context, checks the review it writes, and shows it in the app.
baum generates a review automatically when a pull request you follow gets new commits, a new review request, or is marked ready for review. Drafts are skipped. Pull requests from forks, or from authors without write access to the repository, are only reviewed when you ask.
A review is limited to 10 minutes by default. It uses your agent’s plan like any other session; see Usage.
Why setup asks you to choose models
Section titled “Why setup asks you to choose models”baum uses your agent for three jobs, and each has its own agent, model and reasoning effort:
| Job | What it does |
|---|---|
| Reviews | Writes the review of each pull request. |
| Data extraction | Pulls the decisions out of your sessions and groups pull requests into features for the Timeline. Usually a smaller model. |
| Fixes | Fixes conflicts, failing checks and review comments when you ask. Uses the review model unless you choose another. |
Setup asks for the review model because it sets the quality, speed and plan usage of every review. Default effort leaves the choice to the agent.
Customise your reviews
Section titled “Customise your reviews”In Settings → Reviews:
- turn automatic reviews on or off;
- choose which pull requests are reviewed: only yours, only the ones you are asked to review, both, or every open pull request; and
- choose the agent, model and reasoning effort that write reviews.
Settings → Reviews also sets data extraction, and Settings → Fixes sets fixes. Settings → This computer sets how long a review may run. To turn automatic reviews off for one repository, use the Repositories page; to pause them everywhere, choose Pause automatic reviews in the tray menu. See Settings for everything you can change.
